THE MATH 2

Hello! :)) This is my 2nd blog about Math and this time I want to talk about Bank Reconciliation or on how to manage checking accounts. (By the way a check is the common mode of payment!). A checking account is given to us by banks, savings, loans etc. to allow us to deposit or withdraw money. Every account holder can access their accounts using a personal check or ATM cards.

Steps on how to open a Checking Account:

When you want to open a checking account, you should estimate how much you can keep in the account, and then look for an account whose minimum balance requirements meet your needs. If you dip under the minimum balance, you will be subject to maintenance fees and other charges, so it is important to choose an account with a reasonable balance requirement.

1. Complete an Application – you can register either online or at your local branch.
2. Provide your I.D. – make sure to make a copy of your I.D.
3. Fund your Account – you can fund your account using cash or write a check if you and older     account.
4.Sign a Signature Card – the bank uses this card to verify your signature when you write a check.

Lastly I want to share some tips on how to Manage Your Account Responsibility and Keep it Safe.

- Learn how to fill out a check pro perly.
- Use a secure mail drop for paying bill.
- Don't shop when the money isn't in the bank.
- Balance everyday.
- Reconcile monthly.
- Don't use your primary checking account for online payments and shopping.
- Dispose of extra deposit slips properly.
- Protect your debit card
- Report problem immediately.

So, basically this is our lesson for this week. I think this lesson will soon be important after we graduated and have our own checking accounts. Other lesson that I learned is to be more careful in trusting someone when using a chek for payment.

THE MATH

Last Thursday, (June 14, 2012) we had our first Math class after two long years! >:)) During my high school days I used to love math especially Trigonometry.  It was fun for me to solve and answer math problems. But when I entered college in UST with the course of Industrial Design, that love for math faded! :)) Because that course has no math subject for two years. It felt like that I wasted my time in high school studying math because I never used it in college (except the basics, of course), but I was wrong! Math will never be a useless or a waste of time subject in our life. It will always help us in our everyday life.

Honestly, I think math is not that important when designing something because for me I only use my Imagination when designing, I don’t think of numbers when doing it. But when it comes to creating or building something, that’s the time that I think or see numbers because or measurements.  So what is the significance of studying math especially when taking up Industrial design? In my opinion, it will help us in the future when we start our own business, on how to sell or settle the price of our products. So I think the most useful branch of math in my course is Business Math.

What is business math, what are the purposes or importance of business and what are the effects if you are good in business math. Firstly, business math is all about accounts, balances, and other mathematics we use in life. It presents math skills and knowledge that you can apply to solve financial problems. It talks about net profit, loss, operating expenses and other topics concerning money or assets. Second is the importance of business mathematics. Business math is very important to us because it will handle our business so it will not go down or be bankrupt. It helps in cost and price calculations. It also keeps good records of sales and expenditures. Lastly, the effects of good business math. If you are good in business math it means that you are good in handling money. You will know when to spend and how much to spend. You will not have a hard time controlling your money if you’re good in this math.

For me, studying business math will help me not only in handling money but also to prepare me for the future. It will be a good advantage for me if I’m good with this. So I will study hard and hope to understand all the topics and master it. :)
